TRYOUTS

Players seeking to play competitive soccer with Abingdon Football Club for the first time may tryout by attending a training session with the relevant team(s). For those currently playing competitive soccer with another club, written permission is required from their current Director of Coaching to try out/train with AFC.

Please email Vicki Skazis at (vsms297@comcast.net) or click the Contact Us tab for more information on opportunities to try out with our teams.

Abingdon Football Club is open to both individual players and full recreational teams seeking a community soccer club to develop their players.

TRYOUT FAQS

What should my child bring and wear to tryouts?

Players should wear sports attire, soccer cleats, socks and shin guards. They should also bring plenty of water to keep themselves hydrated during tryouts.

What should I expect on tryout day?

Players will be assigned to a team of appropriate age and gender and participate in one or more normal training sessions, which may include a combination of technical, tactical and game-like scenarios.  We believe this is the optimal way both for our coaches to evaluate potential fit with the team and for players and their parents to get a feel for how sessions are conducted and the culture of the team.

What should I tell my player about tryouts?

We are a community-based club, with most of our coaching staff living and working in the area. We want the kids to have an enjoyable experience so tell them to practice with their ball ahead of time, but to relax and have fun at the tryout.

When will I hear back about the tryout?

You will hear back within a week if your child has made a competitive team.
